Head and Shoulders

Image
I've noticed that there's been a theme of head and shoulders happening in my artwork lately.   I had some little wooden egg cups that I painted with colourful ladies. I loved adding the gold paint and glitter to them! They make lovely little trinket bowls!  I sold both of them within a day and I'm so very happy that they've found their new homes. When I'm painting, I often go from one painting to another to let each of the stages dry. During the painting of the egg cups, I drew a page of ladies with black hair and an art journal page using a swatch of curtain fabric for a background. The egg cup ladies are still having an influence with this one too I think! I'll leave you with this beautiful textured tree trunk. Have a I mentioned I love trees?  See you again soon! xx

What is This Thing We Do?

Image
What is this 'painting' thing that we do, where we lay down colours that please our eyes? And add images we like, a cottage, a tree, then lose them in more shapes and colours, stamping and stencilling, splashing and dripping? When there seems to be no end in sight as the cottage comes and goes, layer after layer? Where we relish and enjoy the thick gold paint as it twinkles on the canvas, adding more, then taking more away? Until finally... A new painting is born. Thankyou for visiting here today! This new painting is called ' Sunlit Cottage ' and is now available to buy in my Etsy shop.  This painting has now sold -thankyou! ♥ Prints are now available to buy here . xx

The Light Through The trees

Image
Spring crept up behind me and pounced. While the earth stirred into new life, already the colours of Spring flowers were fading. A remembered bluebell walk had now transformed into green. I love to walk in the woods, each time of year has something new to show. I love how the light from the sky shines through the trees and this was my inspiration for this painting. I call it ' Green Glade '.  (crop)  (crop) It measures 16 x 16 inches (40 x 40cm) and is painted with mixed media on deep box style canvas. Please click  here  to see more details. :)   Still inspired from my time in the woods, here's another new painting on canvas, it's called ' The Tree of Life '. This one measures 20 x 16 inches (50 x 40cm)  and as I do with all my paintings on canvas, I've attached brass hooks and wire on the back so it's ready to hang. Please click here  if you'd like to see all the details.  (crop) ...

Winter Golden Light and a Christmas Giveaway.

Image
The days are becoming shorter so when we get days of sunshine, it's so very welcome. The light was fleeting but the show of golden was well worth it. Cosy at home in the evening, I've been busy with my knitting needles.  Sorry for the blurred picture, the children in my family aren't very good at keeping still! A warm top for Maisy with a matching hat. A little vest for Harry made from oddments left over from a crocheted blanket that I'd made last year that fits him very well indeed. If you're a knitty crochet kind of person you might like to visit my Ravelry profile to see my other woolly projects. :) In other news... The winning name to be picked for my christmas giveaway is Linda Chant. Congratulations! :) Thankyou for visiting today! xx

Musings of a Tree Lover

Image
Trees are magical aren't they? When I wander through the woods I imagine what it could be like to live there. When I was a child my brother and I were always making dens using whatever we could find for walls and a roof. I'd happily spend hours doing this but I think he'd get bored before I was satisfied that it was habitable! There was one time, I decided we'd laboured long enough for the day and we sat inside it while it rained. The next day it had gone, probably other kids in the neighbourhood couldn't resist smashing it up. I didn't mind, it was a good excuse to make another one! How amazing this stream would look if I was a very tiny creature living amongst the trees.  It could be quite dangerous if I tried to cross it but I seem to remember Thumbelina travelled on  a leaf so that might be a good idea as long as there are nibbling fish and a butterfly around to help me! You'll sometimes see trees in my paintings, I'd love to c...

Have You Started Decorating For Christmas Yet?

Image
Have you started decorating for christmas yet? Is your tree looking splendid? Maybe you have more than one? What about your other decorations around the house. Have you adorned your fireplace with evergreens and flowers and decorated those old household ornaments with festive arrangements? Are your candles lit for the dark afternoons? Or do you have beautiful lighting that looks lovely just as it is? You might have guessed these photos that I took yesterday weren't taken at home but at the lovely house in Wiltshire called Stourhead House .  You didn't think it was mine did you? :)  The garden there's lovely too, always something beautiful to see. I must get on with my own decorations! I shall be back before long to show you. xx ⋆ * ⋆ * ⋆ * ⋆ * ⋆ * ⋆ *
