Blooming Forth

I want to show you my new rose bush. Well it's kind of new, I bought it a few months ago when it was nothing but a short stick with no hint of growth. It promised on the label beautiful orange blooms which was extremely difficult to believe when I looked at the dry stump that I'd brought home from the garden centre! I've always loved roses but have been too scared (and lazy!) to try to grow them because I was under the illusion they needed lots of fuss and bother to keep them alive let alone to produce beautifully scented flowers.

 Can you believe it?!

The strawberries are coming along too. I only have 2 of these plants so  there's no chance of me overdosing on them and let me tell you, I so would.
I love strawberries.
~~~~~~
So on to my painting news. I made a sketch a while ago that looked like this...
unfinished and almost forgotten.
When I came across it again I liked the composition and wondered if I could make it into a painting. Instead of starting from scratch, I had a canvas that I wasn't happy with and decided to paint the image of the mother and baby onto it.
Here's a close up of the beginnings. It's a small section I've shown here. It has a long way to go and I might make the image of the mother and child bigger, hmmm...not sure yet.
And my latest face from the Faces and Names Project has a name - yay! (No her name isn't Yay, although perhaps that could be name for another future face?)
Her name is Violet.
****DON'T FORGET****
I'm giving away three little paintings as a thankyou gift to you. Click here to take you to the post. with the comments. :)
Don't forget to choose THREE. If you've already left a comment with only one, please feel free to add two more!xx
I like the sketch very much! It's so tender, the hands speak for themselves...
The rose is splendid!!! It smells, I suppose! Have you heard that Bulgaria is famous for its roses (for a special sort of them)? We produce 70% -75% of all rose oil in the world in a small region of the country.
Hmmm, it's very exciting to feel like a godmother!:D Violet... In Bulgarian its Violeta [vio'leta]..
That rose is unbelievable, such a vivid color and it must smell divine. I worry about trying to grow roses for the same reasons as you, but looks like all you need is a stick and some dirt, lol!!!
I adore your Mother and Baby painting, exquisite!!! Enjoy your roses and your painting! Hugs from Robin.
Thankyou, yes the rose smells lovely! I used to colect rose petals when i was a child to make 'perfume'. It ended up quite bad actually because I'd mix it with butter (don't ask!)x
I really love that sketch! So sweet!
Our strawberries were eaten years ago, but I found a thriving patch of wild strawberries out here. I wish those were edible! (and bigger than a blueberry)
Oh, it's be so long since I last visited you! I'm so sorry, I just wish I had more time to go blog hopping like I used to. And now that I'm here...wow, and double wow! It looks like you have a bit of a green thumb in you after all, and your garden says it all.
Your paintings are beautiful as always, I'm on love with those colors... :)
XOXO
Ooooo...such a beautiful rose! My mum used to have a rose garden a long time ago, and it's always amazing to see flowers emerge from those stumps. lol..And it's such a vibrant colour too. Mmmmm, strawberries...I could eat a mountain of those.
Love your sketch and painting, so sweet and elegant. Gives me such a feeling of tranquility. <3
