Underneath I saw a Gentle Hand

Does this look familiar?
This painting started life as my 'Scary Bird' painting I did for Illustration Friday. You might see little glimpses from the old painting underneath, the bird's feathers just behind her right shoulder and the leaves in the background.

Here's how my sketchbook looked before this morning's painting.

And below you can see the finished pages.
I've finished the painting on the other page too. I could almost see the girl emerging on her own so I didn't need to add very much.

You can also see the trace of a gentle hand from the painting that was underneath them all.

Paintings with a past... actually the transition worked so well; just by looking at them you wouldn’t know they started as something completely different.
they are both so beautiful.

Wonderful that change can take place so easily (with brush and paint anyway ;-) !!!)

Maybe this is why there is a touch of magic to your work; the layered thought and the way each one grows off the paper. Each picture has a softness and I wonder how much of you goes into each one.

Those are lovely. And it's nice to see all the layers as they work to create an image :) xx

I really like the way you've incorporated a peep hole landscape into the body. (And I prefer the gentle colours of it but then you know we are at opposite poles when it comes to colour!)

Thankyou Sandra, that's what i love about layering, the whole image comes together at the end.:)

Thanks Els, yes if only life were as simple! ;)
Thanks Bella, a lot of me goes into the painting. It's my way of pouring my heart out and I find it very therapeutic!. :)

Thanks Julia!
Hi Gretel, yes thanks we are but no quite so polar these days I'm sure. :)

I love this recycling, hiding - layering art, it creates wonderful pieces, filled with mystery and little whispers of messages and stories - I guess it's a lot like how we build our lives. Laying, adding to, covering up the bits we don't like and revealing what we do - learning and experimenting all the time.

Thanks Clare, you have said it perfectly. ♥
The green woman I am loving! I like the tiny pink hand in the lower right and the tree like shapes with the leaves and the snake shape. So interesting.

Thanks very much Lorraine. I noticed that tiny hand was still there from the painting underneath, towards the end and I liked it so I left it there! :)

LOVE seeing you transform your art - it's like they are alive and growing and progressing just like we do - VERY magical. They really speak to me even tho I know they have secrets...

Thankyou Amalia, that's so kind of you to say. I do love playing with colour!♥

Thanks Victoria, I like my process being called a story. It is a story of a journey. :)

Thankyou SaraLynn, isn't it great having artistic licence and being able to change hair colour at a whim! ;o)

You are so right Jessi! They share a lot of my heart in the page but behind them there are deep secrets that not even I can access at times. :)
