Art Journalling with my New Crayons

I'm still playing with my new Neocolor II crayons and discovered how bright the colours are even when they've have had water added. The background looks like watercolour washes doesn't it? :)

This one's completely Neocolor, I had fun blending the dry colours together

This one was done on a layer of gesso and I liked the way the texture picked up the pigment. I've used other mediums too, like collage and acrylic paint for the girl..

And finally another mixed media piece done on a base of gesso. I pulled a comb through the gesso while it was still wet and it made a lovely base to crayon over!

I love how they're chunky enough to cover the surface quickly and it's so fun adding water, turning it into lovely pools of bright colour.

I think I'm going to wear them down quite quickly don't you?! xx

What fun. I love working with gesso, I have never used it with anything other than acrylic paints. Very creative, I need to get some of the crayons.

It really is interesting how the colors look, and the texture. Sort of a cross between oil pastels and watercolor. Such fun!

You certainly seen to have your mojo back. Wonderful use of the crayons. I use them outside as they are so quick to use. I. Like to mix them with watercolour pencils especially inktense ones which are also very clear colour. So happy to see your magical maidens coming to life. X
Hi Jess, I love all the colours and textures in these pieces - I recently got myself a tin of Neocolor and aren't they just divine to work with? So many ways to use them, and the colours are so vivid. Keep making your beautiful art.

Wow, you certainly discovered the crayons! Love what you're doing with them! That last piece looks like her face is coming out of a tree trunk. Looks awesome ...
