New Things on a Monday

Monday morning, I hope you had a lovely weekend! Mine was filled with family visiting but now the house is once again quiet, it's time to show you what I was working on just before the weekend.

Thankyou so much for your lovely comments about my beach baby painting! As I had some time left at the end of the day that I finished it, I decided to work some more on a painting that you might remember from last year? Do you remember this one?

I've had it hanging up on the wall at home and so each day it would catch my eye and after time, I knew I wasn't happy with the face on the yellow vase. I felt it looked unfinished and at first I was going to put more shading in it to give it depth. Something else happened once I had my paints out!

Not only did I change the face, I painted over it completely and added some birds and some more spots. (If you look closely you can see the masking fluid I put on around the edges of the vase so that I wouldn't ruin the background. I have a tendency to get paint all over the parts where I don't want it!) Once I'd changed the yellow vase, the purple one looked odd having a face so that face had to go too!

I didn't originally plan to change both vases but hey. I like it a lot better now. :)

Butterfly and Bird Vases, acrylic on canvas, 40 x 40cm (16 x 16inches)

What do you think?

I've made this image available to buy from Fine Art America, where you can order it as a print in a size of your choice, framed or unframed, on paper, canvas or metal or even as a greetings card or two!

The original painting is now available to buy here.

Thankyou for looking! xx

Love these happy vases Jess - just right to add some color and fun to January. heve a fab start into your week!
What a change I love it! It is quite good that after a bit of time you can go back and change something if it doesn't please you. Wouldn't it be good if all life was like that!

Both vases look great now and look as though they were always meant to be this way!! How fascinating to see how you changed them.

Oh I do like the changes to the vases, lovely.
Glad you are enjoying the Interior Design series. Haven't watched tonight's yet (I record and watch later). Some good ideas, don't always agree with the judges but it does show what a wide variety of talent is out there.

A beautiful, happy painting, dear Jess! I do like the faces as well...whimsical..I actually made a sketch many years ago of a deep blue vase with a sweet little face... :)
On to catch up with your posts...
Wishing you a wonderful, creative week!
Hugs,
- Irina
I liked the faces. They were friendly and sweet. The new version is lovely and sophisticated though. In both I love your color choices (as usual!)
