Wings and Woods

The word for Illustration Friday this week is 'Wings' I had this sketch (on the left with the butterflies) that I'd painted a while ago and thought I could make it into a bigger painting.

And so I did. Here it is:

It'll be for sale quite soon in my shop. :)

The snow's gone now and the sun came out over the weekend. The family had a busy day with everyone helping to tame the hedge and the next day we went out for a walk in the nearby woods and some very interesting things were discovered.

Look closely at the picture and you might see some faces staring back at you from the taller trees!

The carvings were made some time ago and a lot of the detail had gone but if you click here you can see earlier pictures that were taken in the past (not by me) showing more of the carvings on the ground. When I looked it up on Google I discovered that people had experienced some spooky experiences occurences there:
"Over a six week period, in the summer of 1996, fifteen separate witnesses reported seeing what they could only describe as a green faced monkey, running through the woods. Most of the witnesses told of seeing a tailless animal, around four to five feet tall, with a flat, olive-green face that would run through the woods and occasionally would be seen swinging through the trees.”

I didn't see any green faced, five feet tall monkeys but I'm glad our walk was during daylight hours!

Comments

ohhh maybe you should paint the five foot tall green faced monkeys!! Love the ocean scene with the girl taming her butterfly pets onboard. Have a good week ahead.

I adore the painting! You always paint such beautiful shades of blue!
Those faces would have freaked me out and I can imagine how creepy that woods would be at night.

How mysterious, there is nothing like an unexplained slightly eerie story. Those tree faces are delightful and not scary at all.

I love tree faces...any face on a tree has to be a friendly one in my mind. Your art work is just lovely Jess...such happy colors and all the little illustrated detail in the one on the right is amazing. Your patience shines through on that one.
