Experiments With a Pillowcase

I have a redundant pillowcase that my youngest says isn't quite her style any more. It's too girly.
I was going to take it to the charity shop but then I thought it might still be useful to me but in another way...

It has little mauve flowers as a design and I thought I could cut them out
and use them in a painting..


It's not much good as a pillowcase any more 
but now I know the possibilities of fabric!

Dear Jessie, you haven't been sitting still, reworking sketchbook pages and all.I like your sweet birds but that scary bird had a very nice head (in my opinion), anyway the colours on these two pages are wonderful , i like the left girls eyes. Love your recycling idea, and yes it's exciting to try something else.
Your 1978 photo reminds me of the David Hamilton posters which were very hip in back then.

Great idea. I've used "past-it-but-still-pretty"pillowcases to make bags for inside laundry baskets which try to snag your clothes! Also made a 'travel' laundry bag which I found really useful (and more attractive than the usual plastic carrier).
The more inspiration you find on craft blogs the more you are loathe to part with anything that could be given a new life.

Thanks Carol, you've reminded me that I used to use pillowcases for a sheet in my babies' moses basket and pram. You could just turn the whole thing over if it became dirty (and with MY babies that was several times a day!) It would also stay in place really well because it covered the whole mattress. :o)

hi jess, i love these mauve flowers - of course i love just about anything mauve. ; ) but yes, pillowcases and fabric and general are so *useful*! i like your pale quiet girl here speaking with the flowers...

i too feel like a 'pale, quiet girl' these days... (and yes, the black line is *very much* like an etch-a-sketch!!)

I've been thinking about why I'm drawing cottages lately.  Maybe it's because there aren't many people around where we live and on our daily walks we rarely come across anyone else which I suppose is a good thing as we're still in Lockdown and have to practice Social Distancing which has now become a very well used phrase in our language! Maybe it's this lack of seeing people around that my mind is turning towards houses and flowers? The ones above are done in ink. I love the pearlescent inks, they're so beautiful when they catch the light. The paintings above and below are painted in acrylic.
