All Change

That's what they used to call out on the bus after it had broken down, "All change!" and then my heart would sink as I realised I'd have to wake up from my daydream and comfortable position, to shuffle along the aisle of the bus with all the other people then stand in yet another cold queue for the next one, knowing there'd be a fuss with the new driver over whether my ticket was valid ot not.
"Where is my ticket??!!"

There's been a lot of change in my house this week. Now my son's left for Uni, his younger sister has her beady eye on his old bedroom!
There's been sanding and sweeping and scraping and cleaning.

And lots and lots of painting as it begins its journey to a new personality. I shall keep you posted with the results!

I've got a feeling that wall is not going to remain a boyish blue for much longer!

There is nothing better than a pile of old furniture that needs a fixing - mmm the possibilities - what fun. How are you doing with the half empty nest? I hope it isn't too hard -

You're so brave ;) x

You're dead right Gretel, except it won't be pink that's for sure! (She wanted black!):)

Hi Clare, this is helping me deal with the massive hole he's left. It's going to look very different once I've finished and very much a girl's room even though she says she's not 'girly'!

Thanks Renilde, I feel it! :)

Oh please show your finished look, the furniture is going to awesome!
Yeah the Mackintosh tiles are ordered from the Mackintosh website. The fireplace I bought of ebay for £75.00
Sanded and painted in magnolia. http://www.justmackintosh.com/
I can't find the tiles on there at the moment, so going to have a better look. I did this fireplace around 7 years ago.
All the best with your new bedroom!
Julie :)

I don't think they do the tiles anymore! This is a shame I would of loved to make another on at a later date, boo, hoo! Maybe there'd be some nice tiles on ebay?

OH! Yes, yes! Please share more of this change. :) I love seeing the wood scraped clean and so many possibilities at hand. The bright white walls and furniture is such a transformation already. And those furniture pieces are lovely.

Love love love it!! Can't wait for the finished products... the shapes and spindles are amazing.. my old bedroom suite is just like that...and calling for paint big time! My daughters bedroom was the exact blue in that background. Thanks for sharing...I'm excited for you and your daughter!! Orange?

Hugs Giggles...

Thanks Julia, Auroran and Giggles, I very rarely buy new furniture, you seem to have to spend thousands these days to get a decent piece that doesn't fall to pieces! These old ones go on and on don't they? Built to last! Even better that I 'found' them when we moved in. :)
Jess said…
- Oh not orange, but she wants a red carpet which is fine by me :)

Hi Jessie, Lovely to catch up on your blog. I hadn't realised you'd changed your header, I'm liking it alot! :0) Looks like you have been very busy with your daughters room I'm sure it's going to look great when you're finished be sure to share some photos!!! I was so so touched by your 'flying away' post. About how you have one more left in your nest. Your photos of you and your kids getting bigger really touched me. My boys are still very young but I feel like I'm getting to the 'big and with me some of the time' stage with my oldest already he's only 8 but I seem him changing and growing so fast. I really loved your illustration in that post it was so gentle and full of motherly love awwwww. And I loved that pic of your daughter and her baby. I guess as they grow and change it can be sad but also full of new exciting beginnings too. :0) Thank you for sharing!!!

Hello! I suppose that you are so busy with reconstructing the room and giving it a new "personality", that you don't have much free time to suffer about your son's absence. The last birdie in the nest (according to your tender drawing)still needs you cares, doesn't it?:-)
A Chinese proverb says that children are guests at our homes. And there comes the moment (sooner or later) when they go away... Every time I think of this, my heart sinks!
Jess said…
Thanks Nicola, Yes it's all so profound I can hardly believe it sometimes. :)
Hi Rossichka, yes she does very much need me. They all do, it never ends really does it? I do miss him but changing his room helps me come to terms with it. He's very happy and that's the main thing! :)

Hi Jessie, I just loved your comment on my blog and it is so lovely to see that you are in the UK too. You know what... I am doing...guess..... the same as you are lol, only as two have left I am doing two bedrooms. Hard work it is but it helps me cope with the pain I feel right now and knowing it will be nice for them to come and stay in for their holidays makes me smile.
Can't wait to see how it turns out. I love what you have done with the furniture!

Wow! Can't wait to see the result. Looking gorgeous!!! And your Flying Away post sure tugged at my heart strings. Mine have both left the nest now. One if far, far away but the other brings his family for visits often, which cushions the blow a bit. :)

Thanks Manon :) I'm so happy to have met someone who knows how I feel and is doing the same! I've got 3 rooms to sort out altogether because he'll need a nice room to come home to in the holidays even though he says he won't need it!

Thanks Lisa, yes life moves on doesn't it and I'll get used to it eventually. :)

Thanks Jessi, It might be a few weeks waiting for the carpet to arrive but I'll definitely show the results :)

You're very welcome Julie, lovely new blog!
