The Joy of Acrylics

(click on pictures to see more detail)

I love watercolour but recently I've been inspired to get my acrylics out again. I've been playing in my sketchbook journal with layers of texture and paint and having fun with silver acrylic! Silver acrylic, where have you been all my life?!
I'm really enjoying layering and acrylic is great for this because it dries so quickly and lends itself to holding a texture too. Each page goes on its own journey from the first layer to the last.  Like a real journey, there are moments when it's possible to make mistakes in direction and other moments when the route is smooth and pleasing. One of these days I'll remember to record it so that I can show you the process.
Some of the layers have writing, pourings from my heart and quite private so I cover them with a layer of paint. Still there, still felt.
These pages above are scanned so they don't show the shininess of the metallic paint but if you imagine the light areas are shiny you get the idea.
Now where are my pots of glitter?.....

Silver acrylic? That sounds fantastic! Painting over thoughts...even better. I really like these latest ones.
PS I have lots of glitter...

I love the idea of writing thoughts then painting over them. And glitter would be wonderful with the acrylics. Will you try it and show us please.

Thanks Rosie, a girl can't have too much glitter!
Thanks Robin,I'd like to do a video or at least a series of pictures. Maybe when the schools go back I'll get more time. :)
Thanks Tammie, quite therapeutic too I find. :)

Jessie, these are gorgeous! I love the texture and patterns. The layers give the content such depth. I love the contrast of the deep rich dark blue in the background with the young woman's light face--this makes her seem lit within. And I love The landscape! That waterflow down the mountain is lovely and two little houses at the top--they look like friends. :)

Oh Jessie these are gorgeous! I don't think I've seen you use acrylics before. I think these pieces are lovely and full of texture. What a great idea to write down your thoughts then paint over them to seal them away :0) Lovely. Oh and I LOVED your burlesque life drawing sketches what a fantastic class!!!! :0)

Just found you through Cynnie blog Galerie 46... I Loved the painting she won from you so much that I just had to walk on over... even thought it is late and it is dark, and you are probably sleeping... so I tiptoed around quietly for a bit and loved your place- see you again soon- teri

you've had so much fun here. it's great playing with new or long forgotten materials.
i love silver acrylic, it's so beautiful and silver. compared to the disappointing gold.

I haven't tried the gold one yet. I know gold gel pens can sometimes look brown. I have that pleasure to look forward to!

Hello Jessie, thanks for your sweet comment, it's good to be back and to see you have been trying out something new, love the 2nd one and i can imagine the shininess. I used gold acrylic paint in the past and one can create great effects using shiny paint. New materials work stimulating. x
