This is a painting in my sketchbook I made yesterday. It was really just an excuse to try out that particular colour combo! I've used watercolours here but I think it could work in acrylic too. I do tend to paint different subject matter depending on which medium I use. My acrylic work is more abstract and experimental but the watercolour work figurative and more 'precise'. I'd like to combine the two but still they remain separate.
Do other artists do this too? If you are an artist, have you found this with your own work?

Could I just say, if you think I haven't been visiting your blog recently when I usually do, I have! :) It's just that in the last couple of weeks Blogger won't let me leave comments on the posts where I have to choose my profile from a drop-down menu. I expect other people might have had the same problem? Please could you change your settings if yours is one of the blogs that do this. I miss commenting! :)

Robin from Wiccan Writes has changed her settings and it works!

This is what you do:
1. Go to your dashboard page.
2. Click on 'Settings', then choose 'Comments'.
3. Change the option to 'pop-up box' and voila!

PASS THIS ON! :))

gorgeous piece...love the colors!
I use watercolor for certain things and acrylics for others...I have used acylics as a resist when dry with watercolors over top....a real thin coat of white acrylic saves whites and also stamp into a piece with acrylic and do the rest in watercolor...the stamped image remains but ghost-like quality plus the list goes on but I won´t bore you with all my laboratory findings:) Have a great weekend!

Hello Jessie, those colours work great together, i love the background colours. And yes i know what you mean i tend to work a bit more 'realistic' using acrylics, even paint faces while working in gouache i rather paint them in shadows(also representing the light and dark side of us human beings). When i'm sketching or drawing i usualy immediatly get the feeling whether a sketch will work in this or that medium, sometimes they are suitable for more then one technique. Gouaches i often paint without sketching first.

Thanks Renilde, I think that's the difference with me too. With watercolour I usually draw in pencil first and paint differently in acrylic because it kind of eveolves as I go along. :)

Hi Jessie! ♥ How funny ... because watercolour in many ways is harder to tame! But it may be that you can use pens with it and other materials that are better for drawing, etc...
And, yes, I've had the same problem with comments for quite some time now... it doesnt happen on everyone's page. If I'm able, I'll leave a comment using my URL and name instead.

Thanks Cori, yes I do that too where I can but there are still quite a lot of blogs that won't let me sign in, it's so frustrating!

I love the colour palette in this, and she has a lovely, arch, sideways glance. Very flirtatious.

I know what you mean about water colours, even though they are my preferred medium. Sometimes I wish I could loosen up with them. I don't get on so well with impasto paints, not patient enough I guess.

I don't know whether I have a drop down profile, I'm a bit technically inept.

I use acrylics all the time but I use them differently depending on what I'm painting on. If I paint on canvas I use them thicker with less detail and when I use them on watercolour paper I always add much more detail and paint thinner. I love both but I think I'm quicker with the paper? Strange isn't it... or aren't we! ;) I love both of your ways of working. x

I don't think I change what I am doing because of the medium. Often my pieces get acrylics, colored pencils and watercolor, odd I suppose but that is how I have been learning.
Hope you figure out the problem with leaving comments. I have read other people having that problem as well.

That's a beautiful little painting! I love the colors you used!

You know, I had changed my settings to the pop-up box but people still had problems. I think it's a blogger problem that hopefully will get fixed soon...

i often get notes about people not able to leave comments and just figured the problem was on their end since other people ARE able to leave comments. but thx to your post, i just changed the setting to pop up box so hopefully that will fix it and make it more user friendly for all. i don't know what the difference is, but whatever.

I've been thinking about why I'm drawing cottages lately.  Maybe it's because there aren't many people around where we live and on our daily walks we rarely come across anyone else which I suppose is a good thing as we're still in Lockdown and have to practice Social Distancing which has now become a very well used phrase in our language! Maybe it's this lack of seeing people around that my mind is turning towards houses and flowers? The ones above are done in ink. I love the pearlescent inks, they're so beautiful when they catch the light. The paintings above and below are painted in acrylic.
