Illustration Friday: Bottled

'Bottled' is the word this week for Illustration Friday and as it can have different meanings, I had a few choices of interpretions. I thought about a message in a bottle and bottled feelings. I even thought of it as the verb 'bottled' in the sense where someone loses their nerve. As the opposite has been true of me lately, I decided to follow my heart and to draw whatever came out on the page! :) I'm liking this black and white medium. No colour choices but sometimes having no choice takes us somewhere we weren't expecting doesn't it?

This is lovely--her dreaming expressions, the boat on the ocean, the dots and stars on her dress, the clutched bottle. The only thing that bothers me is the shadows on her face--which are inconsistant (light coming from different directions on different parts of her face). But other than that....achingly beautiful!

gosh, these are both lovely. the black and white draws me in to appreciate the art differently and you have captured and expressed such tangible feeling in each of these women. bravo.

Thankyou! :))

In answer to the light/shadow comment..there are usually several light sources in real life.
In any case, it isn't supposed to look real, it's stylised!! :)

Absolutely love the black and white here! These are amazing Jessie, and you know how much I love your use of color, but these are a great departure from what we usually see here! I love all the detail (of course)!

Hope you are well

Hi Jessie,
I love both of these illustrations for Friday. The black and white does work well together in the compositions.
The faces look very gentle with calm expressions. In fact they remind me of your face!
The owls are cute too. I hope you are well and enjoying the nice spring weather.
Fairy blessings,
Jo. xx

Thankyou! :) I had a lot of fun playing with the patterns. I was away from all my usual art materials so only had the black pen! I think that's a good thing because it made me creative in a different way to how I would have been with colour. :))

If I hadn't come across your post I wouldn't have decided to give it a go again (after a year out of IF) Mine HAS to feature pebbles somewhere so I am still flexing my creative muscle...
b/w takes us in unsual directions in our creativity for sure.
Thanks for the follow and sweet comment at my blog btw.
