Illustration Friday: Savour

Image
Illustration Friday's word this week is 'savour'. I did this one really quickly using a dip pen and then tried to do a neater drawing of it but decided to post this original one because it looked as though she was doing more savouring. Or is she dancing?

Friday's Life

Image
Here are some life drawings I did this morning. She's a lovely model, I do hope we continue to have her until the end of term. I'm going to do some more to my buddha today before that light disappears!

Budding Buddha

Image
I've never tackled a buddha before so this was a new venture for me. This is my work-in-progress... There's more to do, the tree and leaves need more colour perhaps and I think I'll add more ink to the watercolour. Stay tuned!

The Green Eyed Monster

I looked in the mirror and I saw the Green Eyed Monster staring back at me.

Magical Birds

Image
Here's that tree I painted in my sketchbook yesterday and here by the magic of Photoshop are some birds to go in it! I'm liking using acrylic again, I might even do some more.

A Morning of Drawing

Image
Friday morning at my life drawing session and the model got the start time wrong and turned up half an hour late so one of the group posed while we waited for her. I really enjoyed drawing his face. Then she arrived, was kitted out in drapery and staff and off we went. She's a great model, keeps beautifully still and has amazingly long hair which I lOved to draw! Well worth the wait. :)

A page of my sketchbook before and then after spring cleaning. Which do you prefer? The big painting I was working on is now finished and ready to be delivered to its new home. I was going to leave the background plain white but got a bit carried away!

My Great Big Painting

Image
(Click on picture to see bigger.) I'm painting a great big acrylic on canvas at the moment. It's been so dark here that I've only been able to paint in the mornings and I took this photo just now to show you the work-in-progress. It's nearly finished, although I could probably fiddle with it for years! Sometimes you just need to stop and let it be. I need to take my own advice! ;)

Acrylic Playtime

Image
It's been a while since I've done any painting with acrylic. I'm working on a very large painting on canvas at the moment and I wanted to show you but the light's been so atrocious here today and yesterday that I haven't been able to take any photos. Here instead are a couple of pages from my sketchbook where I've been playing with some luscious pinks and a collaged seahorse! This one's background had a tiny help with cleaning up in Photoshop. Did you really think I was that neat and tidy at painting? ;)

Know Your Destination

Image
Here's a sketchbook page that evolved through listening to the radio. Certain words jumped out at me and became part of the picture! I like the way that words added to a drawing automatically create a relationship between the two and give the overall picture another layer of meaning. Life drawing this morning and we were lucky enough to have a pregnant model to pose for us. She was a fantastic model, kept really still and those curves! A joy to draw. That fore-shortened leg was a challenge, but I like challenges!

Screaming Flowers

Image
Pages from my sketchbook with a little background tidying done in Photoshop. Looking at the top one with fresh eyes today, it reminds me of the Scream painting by Munch. That wasn't my intention! There's quite a contrast in mood between my two paintings though isn't there?! The Scream by Edvard Munch I'm starting some canvases today. Its been a really long time since I've worked with acrylic on canvas so there will inevitably be a few mistakes until I get back into it again. Here I go!

Illustration Friday: Spent

Image
Inspired by autumn leaves and the fact I feel like this most of the time these days! Can you see the salt texture on the purple? That was fun to do. I use sea salt because the granules are quite big and they make really good shapes don't they? Today I've managed a morning of yoga, plus the long walk there and back carrying a big heavy bag of shopping so I think I'm entitled to feel like this! ;)
