A Mermaid Finds Her Home

Do you remember the bath panel I painted with a picture of a mermaid? It's fixed into place now and here it is. I've put several layers of clear varnish on it so it'll stand the wear and tear of family life hopefully!Last night we saw the film Séraphine. It's based on the life of the little known artist Séraphine Louis, known as "Séraphine de Senlis"

Born in Northern France in 1864, she came from an extremely poor background and in the film we see her in the early days collecting materials for painting where she can; blood from the butcher's, wax from the church candles. It's a beautifully made film and well worth watching!

Hi Jessie, would love to have bathtub mural like that... part Silkie ?

And you are right, Seraphine is a wonderful film, it came out about a year ago, and almost exactly a year ago I did a little post too about Seraphine...

And funnily enough, we both chose the same painting by her to illustrate our post, I photographed it on display in Paris... small world... Senlis is just up the road from where we live here, I imagine her ghost out walking the countryside in the mists at dawn...

Hi Owen,
That it the weirdest coincidence isn't it? The date of the blogpost is almost the same too! I see you photographed your photo yourself - lucky thing! You had me worried for a minute that I'd already read about her on your blog and forgotten but I see that those were the days when I'd yet to discover your blog! Thanks Owen! :o)
