Head(er) Problems

I went out last night and Paolo was brilliant! CLICK HERE if you'd like to enjoy a moment of his brilliance.
I've changed my header. I was getting annoyed by the old one, wanted a picture to go with the writing, so I did a little sketch of a cartoon me.

Then I painted the one you see in the header and it wasn't as good. Shall I tell you why? The sketch took me minutes and the finished one took much longer. Why does this always happen? My quick sketches are better then the fussed over ones every time! Now comes the question, "Why don't I use the quick sketch instead?"

Answer: Because I wanted my extra special header image to be painted on lovely thick expensive watercolour paper!
Problem: Thick expensive lovely watercolour paper makes me freeze and become self concious.
Answer: (please help!)

Oh Jessie, I do know how you feel and I sympathise! But, I think your new header is enchanting and I love it - the rich. warm colours and the lovely expression on her face...is it you?

Thankyou Liz, yes it's me, it'll have to do for now. I like it better than the old one anyway!

That's very funny. I have a pile of watercolour so thick and textured that I have never used them. I have drawers full of fabrics too beautiful to cut up. A notebook with handmade paper that I will never touch. But I do look at them often.

I think it's just lovely, and very cool it's you!

I'm pretty much the opposite when it comes to art supplies. I'll happily scrimp on food, clothing, and assorted household items, but when it comes to papers, paints, canvas and brushes, the sky's the limit, lol.

You should use the good paper ALL the time - your work deserves it! :)

Haha! Thanks for saying that Rosie, I thought it was just me. They do look nice don't they, all pristine and untouched!

Thanks Carolee, I use good quality paints and brushes, all I need to do now is to stop being scared of expensive paper!

Hi Jessie....I know what you mean...I have done the same thing a few times....now I just create and never worry about things....I think the key is to just start on your good paper and create!!!

your work is lovely and I love them both!!!

Thanks Diana, that's lovely of you to say so. I shall do it! :)

That's me all over when I break open a tube of watercolour. I have found that some sketches that come straight out of the imagination have a power of their own, just as sketches. Some cry out not to be developed into colour. They speak for themselves.

Just one thing about your header: your name is lost underneath the purple. If you changed the colour of your font...then perfect!!
Good luck with it.

The new header is so soft and peaceful.
Amazing having the same idea, great minds think alike!
Don't worry about best paper an all that, it is better to be free and yourself in your art.
I do know what you mean about the second one always harder, more time spent and rarely looks as good. Is it because it is hard labored we cannot look at it a relaxing way?

Hi Jessie i really like your new header!!! It's always great to have a bit of a change. I was wondering if you could tell me how you got your flickr pictures to appear on the side of your blog? I just love being able to see all your art work like that and have tried to have a go at putting mine on my blog. I've got a slide show ready to go on Flickr but I'm having trouble figuring out how to get it to appear on my page.....I'm not great with computers so I'm sure it's probably something simple that I've over looked. Any tips? Thanks Nicola

Hi April, thankyou for your wise words. I shall heed them right this minute! :)

Hi Julie-Ann, yes that's a good point, I think maybe we think things that take less time have less value but it's not true is it? Thanks Julie.

Hi Nicola, the slideshow will have an html code which is usually called 'embed'. You then go to the blogger layout page and click 'add a gadget'. From the menu choose html/javascript and paste the code into the content box. It sounds more complicated than it is and when you've done it once, they'll be no stopping you!

My sketches are always more spontaneous looking than my re-draws. I've started scanning them and then printing them out on my watercolor paper. Works wonderfully!

(I like your autumn-toned limited palette.)
