A Change of Mindset

I've spent almost a week redecorating our bathroom. I even painted the floor which was too traumatic. Sanding floors - never again! I'm pleased with the results and relieved it's all done but when I tried to get back to drawing and painting, I felt stuck.
This always happens to me when I've had a break from it. Some people say it's good to have a break but I'm not so sure today. I feel I've lost my momentum. I'm the queen of procrastination today which is weird because once I've started to draw or paint I lOve it!
Having said all that, I've been doodling with some watercolour and produced these 2 little pictures. I think I need to do more of this, just playing and seeing what happens without worrying about it.

these are adorable. You have not lost any momentum...
a reno, no matter how tiny, will undo me too!

Joss, I've done something really radical (for me!)in the bathroom, I've painted the walls cream and the woodwork white! Believe me, people I know will be shocked, they're used to my very bright colours through the rest of the house ;)
Hi Diane,I'm glad I'm not the only one!

I'm the same, mostly after a vacation - very hard to get back into the swing of things. But once I start, I can't stop..

Love your watercolors! :)

Hi Jessie! I agree with you totally! The same thing happens to me - if I get into gardening mode, I become a gardener, and then I can't draw....also, my hands get all yukky and messed up, and that means I can't draw either! It's so anoying! Ditto decorating, same as you! Hey, can we see pics of the bathroon - I'm psyching myself up for a stint of decorating, like the whole house! I have to sort of menatlly get in training for it, like an althete! It's so weirs, are you like this too! Haha!

Thanks Liz! I mix up my typing a LOT so I don't notice if other people do it! ;)

I totally think that "playing around" is a good idea for getting going. I wasn't making any art at all until a friend from out of town came to visit and we spent the weekend playing with art supplies--making dozens of little pictures. One of the cool things about this is that hers were all totally her and mine were all totally me--and it looks here like yours are totally you. They're way fun little drawings.

I too have found that it's easier to keep momentum going than to try to restart. But it looks like you're doing a fabulous job.

Jessie - your paintings are adorable. I know what you mean about losing momentum though....it happens to me too so i just like to doodle a bit even when i don't have much time for a real drawing or painting.
Hey......can you do May 6th for my blog tour?

Thanks so much.
e-mail me your questions and which prize you want okay?

Love, Violette

I know what you mean, I call it 'ebbs & flows'...when you're in an ebb the inspiration or motivation just disapears! lol
I think you're doing well to paint anything while in an ebb:)

It is best not to worry, Sweet Jess! I think sometimes we just have to listen to the muse and yours sure sounds like they want or need you to take a break. I am this way when I have to step outside of myself...and I seem to have to do that a lot. So I would not worry. It seems like the playing you are doing it moving you in that direction as they are really fun!

Love the polka-dotty backgrounds in these. The girl is very sweet.

I know what you mean. I do not 'switch gears' very gracefully either. It always takes a bit to work up to a smooth pace again.
