Drawing the Full Moon

Some doodles, then a picture with the full moon followed...

I find it impossible to capture the same feeling from the original drawing. I thought a way around this might be to only sketch on the final paper that will end up as the painting, with the chance of ruining the surface of the paper through rubbings out and changes. In the sketch, the girl looks much more relaxed and I've just looked again at the painting above and realised I've forgotten to draw her other hand. I think that full moon is affecting me even though it's not real!

This is just lovely! I am so intrigued by the moon & the sun. I too have the bother of never finding my finished piece as good as my sketch! Grrrr ;-)

I love this Jess! It is so real and so true for the woman, right?

You know, while I really love this as it is painted only you are sure of how you want it to be in the end...sometimes it pays to return to it later when you are more relaxed. What do you think?

Thanks Jess!

I think the end product is very nice, though I completely appreciate your thoughts about initial sketch work versus the end result. Sometimes the initial doodle has more emotion than the final because your mind is so excited to translate from thought to image. Great stuff.

Thanks Kim and Peter, you're so right about being more relaxed! I must keep this in mind I think, thanks so much for your comments :)
