Paper Chains

I have my middle daughter from Cornwall staying this weekend and together with my youngest, they made paper chains for christmas. This has turned into an annual tradition!
They ran out of coloured paper so I gave them some colourful glossy pages from magazines to use..
Actually better I think. :)
Her carpet is a luscious red and I had reservations about it when she first chose it but I lOVe it and it's such a christmassy colour isn't it?

Hmm..youngest not keen on having her picture taken! She said I can put these pictures on my blog but not Facebook... ;o)
....I didn't! (in case you were wondering!)

I've been working on some new paintings.

I had a blissful time getting my watercolours out again. I love loading the brush with the washy colour and watching the paint as it travels across the paper, so satisfying!
I don't think I have a favourite medium as such, I seem to go through phases and I've tried just about every medium you can think of! If I had to say my least favourite, that would be pastels and charcoal. I'm quite a messy painter and these just multiply that fact!
I go through phases with colours too but purple has always been my favourite,
since the beginning of time. :)

What good fun the girls are having and so are the children in the second painting, fantasy frolics!
Sweet lady with her calm and gentle bird is lovely.

Love your little snowflakes falling down your blog! I agree that the magazine pages really perked up the kids' paper chain - how fun! Your water color paintings are SO lovely! I'm afraid I am still very challenged in that medium - ha! Have a happy holiday!

I agree about the magazine strips. Home-made is almost always best.

It made me smile to see how much fun your girls are having together. There is nothing like being with your sister.
Your paintings are beautiful. I love watercolors althought I have alot to learn. Where do your ideas and inspiration come from?

Thanks Jessi :) They look even better hung up, I should take a picture some time. Yes watercolours are the most difficult but such a joy to play with!

Oh Julie, that's so sweet of you, thankyou. :)

Thanks Bella, yes, homemade is more satisfying by far!

Thanks Nicola and Tammie, it was so lovely to have her home even it if was just for a couple of days. :)

Thanks Ginny, my ideas come from starting with a face and the rest of the picture develops from there. I've spent a lot of time playing with paint and I think the more you do this, the more spontaneous you can be when you're makng a picture because it flows out more naturally without having to think about it! :)
