The Blue Moon Day

Image
It's a blue moon today. This means it's the second full moon within the same month. The last time we had a blue moon, it coincided with a landmark birthday of mine. Today it is happening on the day I put my exhibition up. An auspicious sign? ;) It's done, they're all hung at last. :) It's a nice feeling when all the hard work is over. The two photos above are of my own paintings and below you can see Jenny's paintings. We have very different styles but we do share the same idea of the paintings evolving from layers, hence the name of the exhibition, 'Hidden Layers'! I can relax a bit now and wistfully remember the summer that's passing. I spent quite a bit of it near the sea, I like to be by the sea! The evening draws in and a late summer's day comes to a close. :)

Cornish Pasties and Their Cousins

Image
(page from my sketchbook) Try as I might, I don't like cornish pasties. Shame on me! ;) They're such a good idea when you're out and about on holiday aren't they? An easy meal on the go. Oh how I wish I liked them. I've tried the 'imposter' ones with different fillings like cheese and onion, far too filling and makes me feel bloated afterwards. I've tried pork and apple, even worse than the original beef ones. Finally I tried a lamb and mint one. It has to be tasty I thought, I used to love a lamb chop with mint sauce when I was a child.  Hmm.. I won't be eating one of those again. It's not long now until my exhibition!  It's at Bristol   Folkhouse,  Park St,  Bristol  and is to run from Friday 31st August until 27th September. I'm going to be showing with my friend Jenny who teaches painting at the Folkhouse .  Hope to see you there! - and for those of you who perhaps live the other side of the globe fro

Purple and Lime

Image
Doodling in my sketchbook I kept to a restrained palette of purple and lime green with my two ladies. Which one do you like the best? :) I'm having to relearn how to scan my pictures because I'm using my new laptop and trying to get used to the programmes on it. Apparently on my old one (that died unexpectedly one day,) I was using an 11 year old programme, Microsoft Office Picture Manager which I could do almost blindfolded! This new laptop doesn't have it but at least I've worked out how to make them smaller so they don't cover your entire computer screen. ;) And some good news, I have a clever son who rescued my old hard-drive from the abyss and I have all my pictures back again,  hooray!

Thinking About the Seaside and my Forthcoming Exhibition

Image
Some pages from my sketchbook while I was in Cornwall. Lovely Cornwall! Now I'm back home my thoughts turn to the exhibition I have in a week or so. It's a '2 man'  show and I'm sharing the space with an artist friend that I met many years ago at art college. Her paintings are very different to mine but we've exhibited together before and I feel they compliment eachother very well. I'll share photos here once they're up on the walls but until then, here are a couple of paintings I'll be showing... They're both acrylic on canvas. CLICK HERE for more information. :)

St Ives

Image
Hello, I'm back from my holiday. :) Thankyou to new people here for becoming a follower! I've just spent a week in my favourite holiday place in the world, St Ives in Cornwall . I saw star-like plants spreadeagled in all their pointy glory and frilly magenta greater knapweed soaking up the sun. Bright clusters of glorious yellow ragwort were dotted along the coast path. Is it me or do you think there are more wild flowers in bloom this year than ever before? It could be all that rain we had the last few weeks!  These poor crabs were washed up on the beach, ready-meals for the seagulls. A welcome alternative I like to think from their usual diet of pasties, chips and ice-creams. But with the rain, comes the glorious rainbow and what better place to see one than over the bay of St Ives. I don't mind what the weather's like when I'm here, I can't imagine a nicer place to be. :) Most of the week was very hot but I managed to sq

Summer Hare

Image
I'm taking a bit of a Bloggie break for a week or so. My painting batteries are running on low and they need recharging with some time off to fill the well of inspiration! In the meantime I shall leave you with my painting I did yesterday of my Summer Hare.Where she came from I do not know and where she's going? Your guess is as good as mine! I hope you're having a nice summer. I shall be back before you know it. :) Jess x
