Sunny Monday Morning!

Image
It's a warm and sunny morning today! People say it's us British that obsess about the weather but I've noticed a lot of others from around the world  on their blogs wishing for Spring to start and to get some long awaited sunshine. ;) Look we have proper shadows! The view of the sky from outside my back door - deep blue! I hope it stays this time, don't you? Now the sun's out I have projects afoot that I'd like to start, like this old food store that's been lurking at the back of the garage for many many years. I don't know who it belonged to or when it was last used but it looks in need of rescuing at last before the wood beetles make it into a nice meal. Not sure what to do with it but a good clean is the first thing. The painting I'm working on is coming along, I'm deciding on doing more to the background. (Here's a snippet above.) I'm going to use masking fluid for the first time on canvas. I

Turquoise Blue Face Vase on a Bright Sunny Day

Thanks for all your lovely comments and for the new likees on Facebook! I update my Facebook page on an almost daily basis as it's so easy to upload (lets hope that's not tempting fate!) If you haven't already, come over and say hello, I'd love to see you! :) I like to do a blogpost every few days too, bringing all the things I've been doing up together. Here's an art journal page I made... I used a texture medium and stamped into it with plastic stamp shapes, adding layers of paint. I love how the relief catches the colour leaving the background showing through. I must do more of it on my next painting because I do enjoy doing it. I've always done this technique on paper but I'm sure it would work on canvas too, even with the springiness, don't you think? I've finished this one and loved using the bright cheerful colours. When I took it to the kitchen to take a photo, I realised it has the same colours are one of my favourite cup

Mother's Day Treats

Image
After a busy weekend, I came home yesterday to a lovely surprise. My youngest had been busy too! A lovely poster for me! and treats too!  My favourite chocolates! and pretty bracelets from my eldest. Then visits by sons,  who gave me beautiful things and yummy homemade cakes.  I hope yours was a good day too! :) It's Monday morning now, sunny but really cold!  My painting awaits my finishing touches so I shall see you again soon.x

Bright and Sunny

Image
After what's felt like many weeks of dull grey weather I felt the need to use bright colours. I showed you beginning stages of this painting in my last post where the painting looked like a tsunami was approaching (!) but as you can see things have changed quite a bit and here we have a pretty garden of flowers with a golden woodland and cottages. It did make the sun come out! Yesterday was so sunny, I though it was here to stay. It looks like I might need to make some more brightly coloured paintings if I'm to bring that sunshine out again today. Try it,  it could work for you too! :)

A Turbulent Wave is Tamed

Image
I started this painting the other day but I wasn't sure of keeping the composition or the colours. This looks like the sea doesn't it? A bit of a turbulent wave there! I didn't want it to look like the sea, so since I took this photo I've put a wash of yellow paint over the bottom half the painting to make it look green with the idea of making it into a garden. When you're working on a larger painting it takes so much longer because of the area you need to cover with paint. I really couldn't decide what to do with this one so I thought I would paint a tiny one with the same idea in mind to try out ideas. In the end it took just as long as the big painting would have done! I have actually finished the little one  and here it is Ready to list in my Etsy shop . :) It's just 6 x 6 inches (15 x 15cm) on a box style canvas and ready to hang on your wall. Please click here for more details. I'm going back to work on the bigger
